Still a student and had the opportunity to extern for a month at a prestigious and well-known equine hospital. Didn’t last a week there. Super toxic environment, 12-hour shifts extendable to 18. No days off, everybody super overwhelmed. Not a single soul there to teach you anything. Arrogant doctors, interns clearly over the edge; you are basically dead weight thrown in, and you better not bother anyone. That might be how things are not only there but everywhere else in any vet hospital, be it in an externship, internship, or residency. However, working under those inhumane conditions is simply not for me. I’d rather spend 10 or 20 years working in a regular vet practice under the supervision of kind people who see you as a human being seeking knowledge, rather than spending 2 or 3 years of my life with depression and burnout, not really living but existing. Not saying internships and residencies are generally bad for everyone; sure, you gain a hell of an experience, but that comes at a cost that’s definitely not good for my mental health.

Imagine a human baby with the same deformities as a pug or a persian cat. The fact that people buy these breeds is a testament to how dangerous idiots are.

A physician's prescription or treatment is not the end-all-be-all method for every person right? But why does it seem that these communities for dogs and other animals make it sound like positive reinforcement is the only way to get a well-behaved dog while also keeping that strong owner-pet relationship? I am not an expert but as a dog owner myself and an outsider (of these communities) looking in, it seems like they need to be more open-minded when it comes to dog psychology in real life.

I think the biggest red flag is your pet having a lump FOR YEARS and you nevhad it checked out. My dog alway had yearly exams. Once he reached 12, he was getting 3-6 month visits. And any time a lump would FIRST show up the Dr would do a FNA to see if it was something we needed to monitor or remove. It just seems no part of this dogs treatment seemed urgent to his owners.... 😢

I'm a retired vet tech. And I can't even count how many cases of this I personally have seen! Owners every trying oxygen at home to make their poor dog more comfortable. As a surgery tech, I have monitored anesthesia for literally DOZENS of soft pallet reduction and stenotic nare repair. Those surgeries help, but many times the relief is temporary. The dog community needs responsible and ethical breeders!

The role of private equity and corporatization of vet clinics is a major contributor to price increases. Vet students graduate after 8 yrs higher ed with the same debt burden as new MDs yet will earn like, less than half what an MD makes in the early years of their career (maybe entire career!). The old model was the new vet joining as junior partner and potentially buying in to the business and taking over when the Sr vet/owner retired. This is just not happening any more. The younger associates can’t afford to buy in or don’t want the additional headaches of managing a business (which is a totally different skill set). When senior vet is thinking about retirement, the corporate scouts move in with promises like “get back to doing what you love and we’ll handle the admin” and it goes from there. As a licensed tech I’ve worked at multiple hospitals and been client at others and have seen this time and again. BTW, if you don’t know, one of the biggest corporate owners of vet hospitals is Mars (the global food corporation, amongst other things). Corporate capitalism’s primary directive is to return profits to shareholders. This is accomplished by consolidation, stripping assets, and raising prices.

Hi! Can you please make an in depth video on partial facial paralysis in dogs? I’ve researched it and there’s little information available on it and this topic needs more attention. My dog currently has been going through it since beginning of May about 12 hrs after picking her up from boarding. Is it possible it’s caused by a virus that can be treated with steroids? Labs and thyroid are normal, inner ear canals were deep cleaned under sedation and no infection was found, teeth inspected and cleared. Boarding denies any physical harm to her or rough handling. I’ve seen 2 vets with no answers yet. Last resort is an mri/ scan, which is out of budget right now. Currently she’s only on gel eye ointment to prevent her eye from deteriorating. Your insight would be so helpful! Thank you for reading this!

I honestly think it is so weird how there are still people who trash Cesar Millan. If your trashing him then you have not studied him long enough. He has more credentials in what he dose then Zak Gorge dose. In March 2013, Millan was honored by Bergin University for his work with service dogs and received a Master’s Degree in Canine Life Sciences from the institution. Along with the fact is the alfa method has not been disproven it was the study that was disproven. Wolfs do not fight for authority in the wild because there already born with it called there parents. In the wild wolf rarely ever are trapped with strange dogs they do not know. The thing is we do that all the time with dogs. If you send them to a dog park, a day care, or just adding a new dog to the house hold the situation will ending being what happened in the study. Working at a doggy daycare I see it all too many times of a dog thinking there in charge and if another dog thinks there in charge they clash and if none wants to back down they fight tell one backs down. I am naturally a human that would rather follow than lead so I end up finding the leader of the dog group I am with and control physically the lead dog so no harm happens. I haven't finished the video yet but I wonder if this applied to dogs with long backs like daschunds and basset Hounds because even though those dogs have extreme features if they are infact well breed don't cause back issues. But I honestly believe that animal breeding needs to be more regulated and that there should be a licensing process to be able to breed, and sell

There is no evidence that human chiropractic care works. It can help some people relieve some pain temporarily sometimes. They also can't really target bones on a human. When they say they are adjusting C4 or L2 or whatever, they have no way of actually knowing what specific bone they are adjusting. The massive lack of scientific evidence in humans says a lot. There is even less evidence for animals. Also this guy works on horses, dogs, cats, cows, and various other animals that all have different biology. It's so obviously a crock of shit that shouldn't even be legal. It's mind boggling that people subject their animal companions to this abuse and really sad how people eat it up and reinforce these harmful practices
